THERE RUNS A MOUSE
Writer, Director, 2023, Columbia University Players
This original one-act play explores family and abandonment through the lens of a child. Fixated on maintaining a fantasy world in which her parents are yet to return, the child attempts to conjure her parents through play. She is lonely and isolated when a bird flies into her home. At first, she engages the bird in her fantasy world of play but eventually develops trust in her new friend who helps her come to terms with an uncertain future.
Using minimalist staging and lighting design, THERE RUNS A MOUSE exposes the trauma of abandonment and the resilience of survivors to recover and thrive.
